I meant to be wordless, but I don’t know what kind of bird this is?

  1. It’s an osprey – aka “fish hawk.” We have many of them around here in the winter. One pair has hung around the same sailboat mast for three years. There are many osprey cams on the internet, where you can watch them laying their eggs, raising their brood, and so on. i got to see one fledge a few years ago. They’re one of my favorite birds. Their call is just glorious, and when I hear the first osprey wheel in during the late fall, I know the seasons are changing, for sure.

  3. Thanks Linda! We had driven out of town when we spotted this. Apparently people build platforms for them? For osprey only, I wonder or do they share and take turns..lol! We do believe there is an eagles nest nearby in some tall trees. I had a perfect opportunity to take pictures of them but could not get a decent photo.

  11. Yes, Osprey. They are beautiful birds. We were traveling home from our daughter’s Sunday and took a little detour across a bridge over the Rappahannock. I was surprised to look down and see Osprey sitting on their nesting platforms, some with their young around them. Wish I could have hopped out and gotten photos!

      1. We had a few nest around here and our newspaper had a great article on them. The Eagle population is also growing around here. What joy to see these beautiful birds in flight.

      2. Hi Patty! I think they are pretty active here too. I was very excited about them until I heard that they kill baby lambs and there are many around here. I wish we could all get long and not have to kill or eat each other..lol!

      3. oh, that I did not know that. those poor babies, yes I agree we should not have to eat each other! One day the lion will lie down with the lamb and I guess the the ofsprey will play tag with the baby lambs. 😉

      4. Patty, actually what a gentleman that my husband has come to know said and eagle will slice up the mother and then go after the lamb..but there will be a day where we can look forward to no more hurt or tears..

Amen – I never thought about time in the Garden, but from what I studied a few years animals lived in harmony with each other and man, it was when sin entered that caused the disruption in the harmony of Gods Creation. You probably knew that already but I guess I just accepted the way things are and never realized that one day we will live in that perfect harmony again. I can’t wait to touch my first Lion! 😉
