Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgia

Betsy McCall has been with me for over fifty years. How we managed to not part ways in all of those years is beyond me. She recently needed a few repairs. One knee is no longer flexible and she needs to be propped up. Considering, I think she looks great and I love her sweet and wholesome appearance.

Like the palm trees our roots grew deep in the desert.  So therefore we are a bit nostalgic today.

  1. Love it….that is so awesome that you still have her. I had a small one like that with blonde hair once, but when we moved, my mom didn’t back and move her or other dolls with us when I was a teenager. I was so disappointed. I don’t really have anything left from young days like that. She does still look nice. 🙂

  6. We used to call these dolls Ginny dolls, but mine (two) are just like this! I had an album of all the Best McCall paper dolls in the McCall magazines for years, even when she had twin siblings, I carefully cut them out and inserted into plastic but when I moved here I was convinced my one bedroom apt needed to not have such stuff. So i have the dolls but not the paper dolls.i sold then to an antique store. Special post and I really enjoyed the cute outfits you still have for your doll!
    If you aren’t Roberta, forgive me. Someone with a similar blog name I have followed, but then my mind plays tricks with memory and names. 🙂

      1. So glad you didn’t mind my forgetful mind, lapse of memory so to speak. We were in touch for awhile as bloggers do, then spring and summer came and I fell out of contact. Glad to be able to get back where I belong! (My mind is loopy and singing Hello, Dolly now. 🙂 )

  10. oh that doll is amazing! And you also still have extra outfits. I have a large doll that my parents could not afford and she’s so special to me. When we moved to the island, the movers broke her arm off. It was held on by a “sort of” elastic band on the inside securing to a hook in her shoulder. I haven’t been able to find anyone who repairs dolls but would dearly love to have her whole again. What a lovely post!

    1. I looked online and found a lady in Washington state. She spruced up Betsy (as in attaching limbs)and glued hair down on a couple of other small dolls. She was reasonable as well. I remember how special it was to buy her a new outfit. One I wanted to buy a doll for one of my granddaughters. I think she was about seven and so many of them were made up to look like teenagers..makeup and short skirts. It was a challenge but I did find a very sweet one named Clara. Do a search on doll repair but I suggest to read reviews if you can…. Thank you for commenting Diane.. Your blog is lovely…
