A Good Read

I finished reading this book in March. It is the second book that I have read by the author, Lisa Wingate. The first one was called Tending Roses. I didn’t want that book to end. Both of the books spoke to the country girl woman, heart of mine. In Good Hope Road, the residents of the community are dealing with the aftermath of a tornado. There is hardship, frayed nerves and a history of broken relationships, but the beauty of forgiveness flourishes, as the people of Poetry work together.

A Good Read

I am doing something new here, at Words Like Honey. My goal is too read more than I have been. I don’t know if I got book burn out from my last job, of working in a library. I would often check out stacks of books to one person and my desire to read seemed to dwindle. That was a long time ago, so enough of excuses. I am happy to say, that I completed this book by Rachel Simon. It was a random used book that I came across, at our local Senior center.

This book is a memoir. It kept my interest and it tugged at my heart strings and I was not surprised at the emotion I felt when I finished it. It’s not my goal to critque, just to share what I have read. I will hint that Rachel commits to a year long, of riding buses, that her sister rides daily. Beth knows the routes and the names of all the bus drivers. Rachel learns a lot about her sister’s life and learns a lot about herself. The individuals in this were everyday people, which entails some messy live’s and imperfect people, as we all are.

Story Time

Since I retired from working in a library over eight months ago I have not read a book. I have plenty of unread ones on my shelves but our energy has gone into settling in, gardening and other endeavors like photography and blogging. I recently came across an episode on our local pbs station called, Call the Midwife. I was captivated and did not budge and have been faithfully following it since that time. Much of what is on television doesn’t interest me due to the use of profanity or what I see as the promotion of violence. I must say I am intrigued by Call the Midwife and decided to purchase the book. I am here to promote Call the Midwife as you can see by the link below..
